Why do we need it?
In order for data to be processed at faster speeds, higher bandwidth is required. Fiber optic technology is the answer to this demand, and EPON is one of the most popular types of fiber optic Ethernet.
A fiber optic Ethernet with a point-to-multipoint topology is known as EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network). This entails connecting multiple customer locations with one optical fiber. As compared to GPON, or Gigabit Passive Optical Network, EPON offers higher speeds, so it is better suited to high-bandwidth businesses.
How does it work?
An optical line terminal (OLT) manages fiber optic cables in a passive optical network (PON). In most cases, it can be found at the central office of the service provider. It manages communications between ONUs and optical network terminals (ONTs) located at the customer's premises.
What is EPON OLT?
EPON OLT stands for Ethernet Passive Optical Network. This is an optical fiber point-to-multipoint access network that connects a central office to multiple customer premises equipment (CPE) locations. With this device, you have access to increased bandwidth and enhanced security over older technologies.

By using an ARP proxy, another host replies to ARP requests on behalf of other hosts. By answering these requests, the proxy prevents the requester from learning the true MAC address of the host.
This OLT supports up to 1024 hardware host routes. In OLTs, hardware host routes are coded into the switching ASIC's forwarding table.
Static routes are manually configured by network administrators. Static routes are usually used in small networks without routing protocols or in situations with simple and static topologies.
You will be able to support up to 512 hardware subnet routes with this. In the OLT's switching ASIC, hardware subnet routes are programmed into the forwarding table.
In order to manage the forwarding table, RIPv1/v2 and OSPFv2/v3 are used. RIPv1/v2 is a distance vector routing protocol, while OSPFv2/v3 is a link-state routing protocol.
The OLT also supports PPPoE/PPPoE+ for connecting to the Internet. PPPoE+ is an extension of PPPoE that supports Quality of Service, while PPPoE is a Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet.
