Skyway GA100 is an InfiniBand-to-Ethernet gateway that lets Ethernet storage access InfiniBand datacenters, and vice versa. It supports 200Gb/s HDR connectivity today, and can scale to higher speeds with ConnectX's hardware-based forwarding and IP-routing protocols.
Skyway comes with eight ConnectX VPI dual-port cards that forward IP packets between InfiniBand and Ethernet.It can handle up to 1.6Tbps with 16 ports that can handle 100Gbps each. It is possible to connect the InfiniBand ports to the InfiniBand network via HDR/HDR100 or EDR; and the Ethernet ports using 200Gb/s and 100Gb/s Ethernet connections. Additionally, it includes the NVIDIA Gateway operating system (MLNX-GW), which manages both appliance hardware and high availability and load balancing between gateway appliances.
An operating system from NVIDIA, MLNX-GW, manages and configures InfiniBand-to-Ethernet gateways. It controls the CONNECTX adapters, as well as high availability and load balancing.MLNX-GW comes with full management options, including an industry-standard CLI so administrators can manage and configure the system easily.
By connecting multiple Skyway appliances in parallel, IT admins can adapt to growing user demand over time - achieving higher bandwidth connectivity. This gateway supports 1.6 terabits per second (Tb/s) of total throughput, using 16 ports that can handle 100 GB/s of traffic, giving it a total of 1.6 Terabits per second (Tb/s).
Managing InfiniBand networks
An InfiniBand subnet is assigned a single, centralized subnet manager (SM), which serves as a controller for the InfiniBand network using the concepts of software-defined networking (SDN). There is also the option of running the SM within the UFM (Unified Fabric Manager) as well. Using UFM platforms, Data Center operators can efficiently deploy, monitor, manage, and troubleshoot their InfiniBand data center fabric, allowing them to preventatively troubleshoot and maintain their InfiniBand data center fabric. To meet the broadest range of modern, scale-out data center requirements, UFM platforms offer multiple solution levels.
